What treatments are out there to smooth my fine lines and wrinkles?

Have you noticed that, as you age, you get more fine lines and wrinkles? This is a normal part of ageing but many people feel that it can make them look tired or even grumpy, even if they feel absolutely fine. Some people may notice that these changes in their face negatively affect their confidence or lower their mood.

How comes some people have more wrinkles than others?

We all know that some people age better than others and many different factors can play a role, Several researchers looked at identical twins and compared how they aged. They found that probably 60% of how we age is genetically determined. This means that if your family members age well and do not develop too many wrinkles, you will likely be the same. But 40% of how we age is also determined by our lifestyle. So we can have the best genes in the world, but if we don’t watch how often we go out into the sun with no protection and smoke, for example, we will age faster.

These are the most common lifestyle factors that make us prone to ageing:

  • Too much Sun
  • Smoking
  • Processed food, especially processed sugar
  • An unhealthy lifestyle
  • Depression, stress and anxiety
  • Genetic factors

Daily Skincare with anti-ageing ingredients

It is also important that you start using high-quality skincare that prevents and treats wrinkle formation. We recommend that you use creams or serums that contain Vitamin A, B and C on a daily base, a good moisturizer and sunscreen. On top of that, a very gentle peel for at-home use refreshes your skin and prevents wrinkles.

Some of them will rejuvenate the overall appearance of your face and thereby reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Other treatments such as Facial Injectables are more targeted, and you can treat certain areas of your face.

What anti-wrinkle treatments are out there?

There really is a broad selection of treatments to help improve fine lines and wrinkles. Some treatments rejuvenate your overall appearance and, as a result, smooth the lines and wrinkles in your face. Other treatments, such as Botox and MINT Threads, are more targeted and improve certain areas of your face that are prone to forming wrinkles.

Overall rejuvenation

  • Medical Microneedling

This is a popular treatment that uses a device that contains very tiny, fine needles that gently glide over your skin. These tiny needles create thousands of invisible micro channels in your skin. After that, the doctor applies many deeply nourishing ingredients such as minerals, amino acids and vitamins. These ingredients diffuse deeply into your skin through these tiny microchannels. There, they deeply nourish your skin and lift it. As a result, skin becomes healthier, thicker and looks younger and more radiant. Fine lines and wrinkles will be reduced giving you a smoother look.

  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

IPL is a light-based treatment that rejuvenates skin and reduces fine lines and wrinkles but it also targets uneven pigmentation and dark spots. This makes it the perfect treatment if you are concerned about fine lines and wrinkles and want to achieve a more even skin tone and texture at the same time.

  • Chemical Peels

These are simple, effective treatments that deeply refresh your skin and require minimal downtime. Chemical peels are medical-grade peels that use gentle acids that are derived from plants or sugar cane, for example. When we apply these very mild acids to your skin, they will gently remove the dead skin cells on top of your skin.  As a result, dull and dry skin with a tendency to form wrinkles, will look rejuvenated and refreshed with a more youthful complexion.

More targeted treatment options

  • Botox

Botox relaxes the muscle under the skin of your face. Due to this, the skin that lies on top of that muscle has got more space to stretch and expand. As a result, this process reduces the fine lines and wrinkles in your skin. Botox has to be injected directly into the muscle and targets the fine lines around your eyes and between the eyebrows and on your forehead. It is also a popular option to smooth fine lines on top of your lips.

  • Dermal Filler

We can use dermal filler, a naturally occurring sugar in your skin that feels like a gel, to fill wrinkles and fine lines. It will last for 6 to 12 months and usually has to be renewed after that.

Sometimes we can mix dermal filler mixed with a tiny amount of Botox. This works particularly well for the so-called barcode or smoker’s lines on top of your lips.

  • MINT Threads

These are tiny, little threads that our doctor gently inserts under the skin. The threads will be absorbed after a few months but stimulate enough collagen in your skin to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. They work particularly well for lines in your cheeks and on your neck.
