Erase the Frown: How to Eliminate Frown Lines
Many people seek help for their frown lines- the wrinkles between their eyebrows. These vertical lines between our eyebrows become more visible as we age. First, they appear only when we frown or make facial movements, but at some point, they also appear when we rest our faces.
Some people believe the lines between their eyebrows give off a grumpy or unhappy appearance. This can happen even when they are actually feeling good and living happily. Many people seek help from a cosmetic doctor for this, which is often the first concern of aging.
Fortunately, we can treat these lines. Let’s first examine how these lines form, and then we can discuss the treatment options.

What causes frown lines?
When we look at our eyebrows, a small muscle in the middle connects them. Each time we frown, this muscle contracts and becomes shorter. As a result, the skin on top of this muscle does not have enough space to stretch out and becomes wrinkly. As we age, we often use the muscles between our eyebrows, making the wrinkle more noticeable.
Furthermore, as we age, this muscle becomes shorter and stiffer, worsening the wrinkling. Another key factor is that our skin loses collagen and elastin, two major building blocks. This process makes our skin thinner and less elastic, which also causes wrinkles.
What treatments are available to treat frown lines?
We offer several treatments at Satini Cosmetic Clinic. The most popular and effective treatment remains Botox.
1. Facial Injectables
We have discovered that a small muscle between our eyebrows causes wrinkles. This knowledge opens up the possibility of using Botulinum Toxin as a treatment.
Botulinum Toxin relaxes muscles. When we inject this into the muscle between our eyebrows, it becomes more relaxed and longer. The skin on top of the muscle has more space to stretch out, so it looks less wrinkly.
In most cases, this simple and effective lunchtime procedure works incredibly well and gets rid of this unsightly wrinkle. However, for some women, if the wrinkle is deeper and visible at rest, they may need additional treatment. A good treatment option for deeper wrinkles is MINT Threads.
2. MINT Threads
MINT Threads are tiny surgical threads that we gently insert under your skin. Over a period of three months, these tiny threads gradually dissolve and stimulate collagen in that area. As a result, the skin becomes thicker and the wrinkles smoother.
The real advantage of MINT Threads is that you do not need to treat the whole face but can instead target one line and make it look smoother.
3. Dermal Filler
You can treat the frown lines with dermal filler by gently injecting it under the skin. The dermal filler is a thin, gel-like substance that fills in the wrinkle from underneath the skin and makes it less visible.
However, not many doctors offer this treatment option due to a small but existing risk of blindness. Because of this risk, Satini Cosmetic Clinic does not offer dermal filler treatments in that area.
4. Skincare Products
Lastly, good anti-aging skin care can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. We always recommend using vitamin C, retinol, and a high-quality moisturiser daily. The occasional at-home peel helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles and restore radiance and glow to your skin. And please, even though you have heard this many times, do not forget your daily sunscreen, as sun damage makes skin wrinkly.
5. Skin Resurfacing Treatments
Various skin resurfacing treatments are available that can help improve the appearance of frown lines. These treatments include chemical peels, microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing, and microneedling. These procedures reduce fine lines and wrinkles by removing the top layer of skin. They also boost collagen production and encourage skin cell turnover.
Are there any new treatments coming for frown lines?
The FDA recently approved DaxibotulinumtoxinA, a form of Botox, for treating neck spasms. This new Botox lasts longer than the most common Botox products (Xeomin, Dysport and Botox), which could mean that need treatments less frequently.
