The secret to natural, beautiful lips
Dermal filler for lips is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments modern women choose. Doctors in the US perform more than a few million procedures every year.
As lip filler is popular, I want to share my experience as a cosmetic doctor with you in today’s blog.
Why do so many women love lip filler?
Women of any age, starting in their mid-twenties up to well beyond their 70s, request lip fillers. However, they tend to seek treatment for different reasons. Younger women usually want to enhance their lips and make them look fuller and more beautiful. Women over 35 may see thinner, drier lips as they age.
Many women think that having nice, natural lips makes them look better and feel more confident and happy. They can make your lips look fuller and more defined. On top of that, they make lips feel less dry and more hydrated.
What is lip filler?
Lip filler is a cosmetic procedure. It involves injecting a gel-like substance by a doctor or nurse into the lips. The purpose is to make the lips look fuller, more contoured, and more hydrated.
The substance used is typically a gel-like material made of hyaluronic acid. You can find this gel in many body parts, and it helps retain moisture and plump up the skin.
The amount of filler you need will vary based on your goals, but most people need 1 ml or less.
Lip fillers can
- create a fuller, more defined lip shape,
- enhance lip symmetry,
- reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth.
The results are temporary and typically last 9 to 15 months before the body absorbs the filler material.
How do doctors naturally enhance lips?
Doctors can enhance lips naturally, primarily using dermal fillers. The doctor or nurse must be well-trained, qualified, and have an excellent aesthetic eye. Here are a few essential points that
They add volume, shape, and symmetry. Here is an overview of the natural lip enhancement process
Lips are made of two halves.
Lips consist of two distinct halves. The lips undergo a fascinating fusion process during fetal development in the womb. The top and bottom lips start as separate parts on each side of the middle of the face. As the baby grows, the different parts of the lips come together and join in the middle.
This process gives our lips their distinctive shape, and a subtle dent or groove emerges in the centre of the lower lip. And the upper lip develops the cupid’s bow.
The type of filler is important.
Generally speaking, most people don’t want anybody to see that they have work done. To facilitate that, the doctor should use a dermal filler that naturally stretches when you move your lips. This means that the filler is like an elastic, soft gel inside your lips. This soft gel stretches when you smile or stretch your lips; when you rest, the filler returns to its original shape.
Examples of high-quality lip fillers are Teoxane RH2 and RH3, Belotero and Styalge Lips.
The amount of filler is paramount.
Using only small amounts of filler is important. Just enough to add a bit of volume and enhance the shape of your lips. Most people will have 1 ml lip filler or less. Often, people who request more lip filler can look somewhat unnatural.
The doctor first places tiny amounts of dermal filler along the lip borders to achieve natural-looking lips. This will make your lips look more defined and contoured. After that, they gently inject small droplets into different lower and upper lip areas to make them look fuller. Many different techniques can achieve natural-looking results.
Sometimes, the lips may swell during the procedure. This can make it difficult to determine if they appear fuller because of the filler or the swelling. Because of that, the doctor may ask you to return after 3 or 4 days when the swelling has reduced.
A registered doctor or a registered nurse must perform the complex lip filler treatment.
What does the natural lip filler treatment involve?
A natural lip filler treatment is truly just an office procedure. Simple and effective, you do not need a lot of downtime.
You must arrive approximately 10 minutes early for your appointment. This allows the doctor or nurse some extra time to apply a numbing cream, making the procedure much more comfortable. Afterwards, the health professional gently places the lip filler along your lip. This usually takes between 15 to 30 minutes.
The Do’s And Donts After Your Natural Lip Fillers
Here are a few tips on what you should and shouldn’t do after your lip filler
- Do look after yourself and make sure you rest more than usual on the day of the procedure
- Don’t drink caffeine. This dilates the vessels in your lips and can cause bruising.
- Avoid any hot drinks.
- Do apply icepacks to your lips.
- Don’t do any strenuous exercise for 2 to 3 days.
- Don’t have any facials or massages for 2 to 3 days.
- Don’t take anti-inflammatories. You can take paracetamol or codeine if you have pain.
- Avoid any supplements that contain fish oil, turmeric or liver cod oil.
Can you have any problems after the lip filler?
Before you have lip filler, it is essential to consider the risks and benefits.
Most people will not have any problems after a lip filler treatment. But it is quite normal to experience some swelling of the lip. This is usually more visible on the upper lip.
To alleviate the swelling, you can apply ice packs after the procedure. Even with great care, you may still get bruises. But a bit of lipstick can usually hide this.
Some people easily get cold sores; you must tell your doctor about this. When you have a lip filler treatment, it can sometimes cause cold sores to reoccur. To prevent this, your doctor can prescribe the antiviral aciclovir. Two tablets are usually sufficient to prevent cold sores.
Rarely, lumps can form after lip filler, especially after Juvederm.
Inflammatory reactions or redness at the injection site can happen.
An extremely rare but serious complication is the filler occludes a vessel in your lips. A qualified doctor who can handle the situation immediately must treat this immediately.
Is Lip Filler Painful?
The lip tissue is a sensitive part of the face, and lip filler can be uncomfortable. However, practitioners often use topical numbing creams to minimize this discomfort.
The injection might hurt a little, but using numbing cream before can make it less painful. Numbing creams typically contain local anesthetics that temporarily desensitize the area, making the process more tolerable. On top of that, the lip filler contains a local anaesthetic that helps reduce any pain further.
The doctor applies the numbing cream before the lip filler treatment, allowing time for the anesthetic to take effect. You should always talk openly to your doctor about how comfortable you feel.
Using numbing cream can help reduce pain, but everyone’s pain tolerance differs.
