A new treatment to improve vertical barcode lines on top of your lips
We have developed a signature mix of dermal filler and Botox to treat slightly more advanced vertical barcode lines. These lines are usually visible even when you don’t move your lips. For best results, we use our own signature mix and inject it gently into the area on top of your lips. The filler we use stretches very nicely when you move your lips for the most natural results and also fills the lines well.

For this treatment, the doctor will apply a numbing cream first to make the procedure more comfortable. Please come in approximately 30 minutes before you have the treatment, so that the cream will have enough time to work properly.
While you are waiting, the doctor creates a mix that contains dermal filler, botox and a small amount of local anaesthetic.
Once your numbing cream is working, the doctor will inject a very small amount of local anaesthetic close to the corners of your mouth. This will sting a little bit but after that, the area will be numb and you will not feel any pain.
Following this, the doctor will use a small cannula and gently insert it into the area on top of your lips. The doctor will then gently move the cannula up and down. This process is called “debriding”, which means the doctor uses the cannula to loosen the upper layers of skin from the lower layers. This will smooth wrinkles and stimulate collagen to further reduce the wrinkles. On top of that, the doctor creates a small space for the dermal filler/Botox mix.
After that, the dermal filler/ botox mix will be injected.
Several studies showed that dermal filler is a good treatment option for barcode or smoker lines.
It is a simple and effective treatment to treat barcode lines and usually takes 30 minutes.
Most people will notice a difference straight away. But it will take a few days for the botulinum toxin to start working. You will notice over the next two weeks that the barcode wrinkles are gradually smooth and become less noticeable. The full result will be visible after 2 weeks. We, therefore, offer a follow-up consultation after 2 weeks at no extra charge.
Most people find that the lines on top of their lips are less noticeable for 12 to 18 months. Rarely, do some people return after 6 to 9 months and request another treatment.

Rarely, you will experience bruising or discomfort at the injection site. It can also happen that some people feel a bit headachy after a treatment.

Most people resume their daily activities straight after the procedure. If you experience any pain or discomfort on top of your lip, we recommend you apply ice packs and rest. You should also avoid hot drinks as heat can make you more prone to bruising and swelling and increase any pain or discomfort.
You may want to sleep on two pillows the night after you had the treatment to further reduce the likelihood of swelling and bruising.
