Are dark circles under the eyes making you look tired and even grumpy, even though you feel absolutely fine? Dark circles under the eyes can be faded with a small amount of a very thin tear trough filler that is gently injected into the skin under your eyes. As a result, you will look fresh and rejuvenated, as if you have just come back from a relaxing holiday.

Frequently Asked Questions
Our eyes are sitting inside a boney cavity. As we age, our bones thinner and smaller. When the bones that form the cavity for our eyes become smaller, the cavity itself becomes bigger. As a result of this natural ageing process, our eyes look more hollow. On top of that, the skin under our eyes becomes thinner and the blueish veins shine through. This makes the circles under our eyes look darker. Furthermore, the tiny fat pads under our eyes start sagging. This makes our eyes look even more hollow and tired.
Dermal filler is a gel-like substance that can be gently injected along the bone under your eyes and into the skin under your eyes. This will help reduce the signs of ageing under your eyes and give you a refreshed and less tired look.
Our preferred filler for the delicate area around your eyes is Teosyal Redensity 2. This is a dermal filler from Switzerland. It was specifically developed for the area under the eyes. With some other fillers, you can rarely develop a blueish discolouration of the dark circles under the eyes (this is called the Tyndall effect). The Teosyal Redensity filler is a very smooth filler that is able to stretch and move nicely with your eye movements. It does not cause the Tyndall effect.
During your initial consultation, the doctor will carefully assess and examine your face. We will explain the ageing process to you and give you advice on the best treatment options. It is very common that we have to treat your cheeks and temples first before we start treating your tear troughs. This is because a small amount of dermal filler can lift the cheeks and temples and, with that, also lift the area under the eyes. In quite a few cases, this may be enough to treat dark circles under the eyes.
We will provide you with a detailed treatment plan and discuss your best options with you.
Most people feel a mild level of discomfort during the treatment. The dermal filler contains a local anaesthetic which makes the procedure much more comfortable. On top of that, we use an ultra gentle needle for this procedure. In the rare event that the procedure becomes too uncomfortable, please let us know immediately, and we can discuss other options for pain relief.
We do recommend you take 1 g paracetamol before the procedure. Please do not take any anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen or diclofenac as these can make you bruise.
Most people resume their daily activities right away but we do recommend you look after yourself and rest plenty after the treatment.
You should avoid
- strenuous exercise for 48 hours
- alcohol
- supplements and any blood-thinning medication
- any facials or cosmetic treatments.
We will provide you with detailed aftercare advice following your procedure.
The procedure is simple and effective and takes 30 to 45 minutes.
We try our uttermost to prevent any bruising during this procedure. Despite best efforts, a small number of our clients will get bruising, approximately 10 to 15 %.
Please read our informative blog on what you can do at home before your procedure to prevent bruising.
