Moisturizing Ingredients
Squalane is sustainably derived from cane sugar. It is an ultra-light moisturizer that does not clog pores. This makes it ideal for oily and acne-prone skin, but you can use it for any skin type. On top of that, it has a weightless feel and promotes diversity of the microbiome on your skin. As a result, your skin becomes more resistant to pollution and less prone to allergies.
PPG-1 Trideceth-13 is derived from coconut and palm and is a moisturizing and emollient ingredient.
Isohexadecane is an emollient that forms a protective barrier on the skin and therefore helps skin stay hydrated.
Glycerin is a natural substance derived from vegetable oils or animal fats. It’s a clear, colourless, odourless and syrupy liquid with a sweet taste.
A 2016 study showed that glycerin is one of the most potent moisturisers for skin, becoming even more potent if combined with hyaluronic acid.
Polyacrylate-13 is a large molecule that is unable to penetrate the skin. As a result, it forms a fine film on top of the skin which helps it retain moisture. It is produced in a lab.
Ingredients that support the skin’s microbiome
Alteromonas Ferment Extract is produced by a deep sea bacteria called Alteromonas macleodii. This bacteria produces a polysaccharide that forms a film on top of the skin which attracts and retains water. As a result, skin is more hydrated and plump. It is commercially available as Abyssine.
2 recent studies showed that this polysaccharide also protects skin from pollution and heavy metals.
Lactobacillus fermentosa is a synthetic ingredient derived from milk bacteria. This ferment supports the natural microbiome of our skin. Our skin is naturally protected from pollution and harmful bugs by a coat that is formed by more than one trillion bacteria. When we use harsh chemicals or cosmetic products that destroy this finely tuned ecosystem of bacteria, skin becomes prone to inflammation, itchiness and dryness. Lactobacillus fermentosa helps restore this balance and protect our skin.
