Hydrators & Moisturisers

We have selected a few, simple moisturisers that are effective and affordable and help hydrate your skin. It is important that you keep your skin moisturised on a daily base.

Can a simple moisturiser improve signs of skin ageing?

Yes, totally. As we age, our skin becomes drier and has got a tendency to feel irritated and inflamed. It is therefore important that you keep your skin moisturised on a daily basis.

Well hydrated skin also looks healthier and younger. On top of that, a good moisturiser creates a barrier between your skin and the environment. As a result, it can protect you against cold air, harsh winds and dry climate conditions that further dry out your skin.

Which moisturiser is best for my skin?

Generally, if you have dry skin, you should use a cream. This is because creams contain more oil than water and moisturise your skin more deeply. In contrast to that, oily skin can be prone to acne and break outs. In this case, we would recommend you to use a light lotion. A lotion is more water based and does not clog your pores.

Are expensive moisturisers better than simple over the counter moisturisers?

Not really. Many moisturisers are being marketed quite well and appear to be superior to others. But in reality, a simple moisturiser from the chemist may be as good as a really expensive one.

Only a few ingredients are studied well enough to prove that they really hydrate skin. And not many studies compare one moisturiser with another one to prove that one is better than the other. The most traditional ingredients that moisturise skin are urea, cetomacrogol and ceramides. These ingredients are commonly used by doctors to treat dry skin or even eczema (people with eczema usually have extremely dry skin and need to moisturise a lot).

A more innovative ingredient is hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar in skin that attracts and retains water. Some products that contain this ingredient can be quite expensive, and they are not always better than the traditional over the counter moisturisers.
