Why you should choose an expert for your lip fillers in chch

Choosing an expert for your lip fillers is crucial so you can achieve your desired outcome while minimizing the risk of complications. If you visit a clinic, make sure that you either see a doctor or a nurse who works with a doctor in the same clinic.

Here are some reasons why you should choose an expert for your lip fillers.

Medical training

A well-trained doctor is a safe doctor. Cosmetic doctors have very special training in injecting and detailed knowledge of the human anatomy. This includes the lips and surrounding areas.

Experience with injections

Doctor are experienced in administering injections. This is a key skill for administering lip fillers and it can take years to get the manual skills to be a safe injector.

Ability to address complications

Even though complications or side effects are rare, a specialized cosmetic doctor has the knowledge and experience to address and manage them effectively. Cosmetic doctors regularly attend conferences and stay up to date with the most recent developments in cosmetic medicine. This also means they stay up to date with how to deal with complications. This can make a big difference to you.

Knowledge of different lip filler types

There are different types of lip fillers available. Each one has its own unique properties and uses. An expert has knowledge of the different filler types and can recommend the most appropriate one for you.

Please note that not all doctors are experts in lip fillers. Don’t be afraid to ask your doctor about their qualifications in cosmetic medicine.

Dr Nadja Haub says

Lip fillers are one of the most requested procedures at Satini Cosmetic Clinic. Most women just want to add a bit of extra volume to their lips and naturally shape and enhance them. My preferred filler is made of hyaluronic acid.  There are different types of filler available. If you would like to have really plump and kissable lips, I use a thicker filler that ads volume. But if you would just like a little bit more hydration and shape, then I use a thinner filler that stretches nicely when you move your lips and provides very natural results.

What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers can add volume, shape, and contour to your lips. They are typically made of hyaluronic acid. This is a naturally occurring sugar in your skin that helps to hydrate and plump.

During the procedure, the filler is injected into specific areas of the lips using a fine needle or cannula.

Lip fillers can be used to enhance the lips by adding volume to thin lips, smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, improving symmetry, and defining the lip border. They can also be used to correct asymmetry and other irregularities in the lips.

How long do lip fillers last?

It’s important to note that the effects of lip fillers are temporary, and the filler will gradually break down over time. Depending on the type of filler used, the results can last anywhere from several months to up to a year or more. Repeat injections may be necessary to maintain the desired results.

Overall, lip fillers are a safe and effective way to enhance the appearance of the lips and achieve a more youthful, attractive, and natural-looking smile. However, it’s important to choose a qualified and experienced injector to ensure the best possible outcome and minimize the risk of complications.

What happens during my lip filler treatment?

Free Initial Consultation

A lip filler treatment typically begins with a consultation. We will discuss your goals, how you would like your lips to look and listen to you carefully about your concerns.

We will take a thorough medical history to make sure you are safe to have the treatment. Dr Nadja Haub will then assess your lips and facial anatomy to determine the best approach for your lips.

Before The Treatment

We often apply a topical numbing cream to numb your lips and the area around the lips. This can help minimize any discomfort during the procedure.

Consent

It is very important that you make a well-informed decision about your lip filler treatment. To help you with that, we will explain the procedure to you and what it involves. We will also inform you about all the possible side effects and complications. Only if you are happy and feel comfortable with the treatment plan, we will start the procedure.

The Treatment

The lip filler is then injected into your lips using an ultra-small needle or cannula.  After the injections are complete, the doctor may massage your lips to distribute the filler evenly and ensure a smooth result. Icepacks may help to minimize any swelling and bruising.

The entire procedure typically takes between 15 and 30 minutes. Most people can usually return to their normal activities immediately afterwards. However, a few people may experience some swelling, bruising, and tenderness in the treated area. This can last for a few days to a week.

The results of lip fillers are typically visible immediately after the treatment. But it may take a few days for the full effect to become apparent.

What types of filler are best for my lips in chch?

There are several types of dermal fillers that the doctor or nurse can use for lip enhancement. The most popular fillers for the lips are hyaluronic acid fillers. They have been around for a long time and rarely cause complications.

  1. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers: Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body and is one of the most popular types of fillers for the lips. These fillers are typically soft and pliable. This makes them ideal for creating natural-looking results. Some popular hyaluronic acid fillers for lips include Juvederm, Restylane, and Belotero.

But there are other fillers around as well. These tend to be more popular for cheeks and the jawline but are not so often used for the lips. This is likely because they only stimulate collagen but do not actually fill the lips. The lips naturally contain less collagen compared to the skin on your cheeks and jawline. Due to that reason, they can not stimulate a lot of collagen in the lips and make them look fuller. On top of that, they can not be dissolved as easily as hyaluronic acid filler.

What other types of lip filler are out there?

  1. Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Fillers: These fillers are made of tiny particles of calcium hydroxylapatite, a substance that is naturally present in bones. They are thicker and longer lasting than hyaluronic acid fillers. But that type of filler works by stimulating collagen and is of only limited use for the lips.
  2. Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) Fillers: These fillers are made of a biodegradable substance that stimulates collagen production in the skin. Sculptra is a popular PLLA filler that can be used for lip augmentation.
  3. Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) Fillers: PMMA fillers contain tiny microspheres that are suspended in a gel. These fillers provide a long-lasting and durable result but may require multiple sessions to achieve the desired effect. However, PMMA fillers are not a good option for lip augmentation as they can be more difficult to inject. They also have a higher risk of complications.

How long do lip fillers last?

The duration of lip fillers depends on several factors, including the type of filler used, the amount injected, and your metabolism. Typically, most lip fillers last anywhere from 6 months to a year. Sometimes, lip fillers last longer, up to 18 months.

For some people, lip filler may last longer, while others may require more frequent treatments to maintain the desired effect.

Factors such as individual metabolism, lifestyle habits, and the amount of filler used can all affect how long the results last. Regular maintenance treatments may be necessary to maintain the desired level of lip fullness and contour.

Are lip fillers safe?

Most lip fillers are generally considered safe when administered by a doctor or nurse. However, as with any cosmetic procedure, there are potential risks and side effects associated with lip fillers.

Common side effects of lip fillers include
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Redness and tenderness
  • Pain at the injection site.

These side effects are generally mild and resolve within a few days to a week after the procedure.

Less common but more serious side effects can include

  • Infection
  • Allergic reaction
  • Asymmetry, lumps or nodules.

These side effects are rare but can be serious and require prompt medical attention.

Very rarely, a small amount of lip filler can block a vessel in the lip. If this was the case, you would feel a very sudden and unusually sharp pain in your lips or elsewhere in your face. The doctor has to treat a complication like that immediately to avoid any further problems.

Please read more in our informative blog about lip filler and its potential complications here.

Are lip fillers painful?

The level of discomfort with lip filler injections can vary from person to person. Some people may experience only mild discomfort, while others may feel more significant pain. However, most people report feeling a slight pinch or pressure during the injection, but this typically subsides quickly.

We may apply a topical numbing cream or local anesthetic to help reduce any pain or discomfort when you have the procedure. On top of that, we also use a very fine needle to administer the filler, which can help to minimize pain and reduce the risk of bruising.

It’s important to note that after the procedure, you may experience some swelling, tenderness, or bruising around the injection site. This is normal and should subside within a few days.

Overall, while you may have some discomfort, it is generally well-tolerated and the results can be very rewarding.
