1ml Lip Filler: The Perfect Amount for Natural-Looking Results

When it comes to lip fillers, many people want to achieve natural-looking results without appearing excessive or artificial. Commonly, people wonder how much filler they need to achieve a natural look. Let’s delve into this topic today and determine how much lip filler is enough for most people.

How much lip filler is right?

Many want natural-looking lip fillers that enhance lips without appearing excessive or artificial. Commonly, people wonder how much filler they need to achieve a natural look.

Every lip is different.

Each person’s lips are unique, so the amount of filler required may differ for each individual. However, most people do not need more than 1 ml of lip filler to achieve their desired results.

This amount is usually enough to plump and shape the lips in a natural way. Instead of adding more lip filler, we often prefer to choose a different type based on your desired outcome and lip type.

Normal volume lips

People with normal-sized lips often desire a slightly plumper and more contoured appearance. In such cases, typically, we only require a small amount of lip filler. This small amount can provide subtle enhancement and natural-looking results without appearing excessive or artificial. People with normal-volume lips are often happy with just half a ml of lip filler.

Thin lips since birth

People who have had thin lips all their lives often desire fuller lips. Commonly, the upper lip may appear thinner than the lower lip, but occasionally, both lips can be thin.

Doctors often use a thicker filler to contour and fill this common type of lips, providing the desired volume and shape. Achieving the optimal lip volume for these women may require several sessions.

Mature, thin lips due to ageing

As we age, our lips will also change and show signs of aging. Over the years, they become

  • Thinner and feel drier
  • The border between the red lip and the skin around the lip appears more hazy.
  • The upper lip appears longer
  • The vertical lines on top of the lip become deeper

Many women with mature lips prefer natural and subtle results. We usually discuss what type of filler they prefer. For natural-looking and moisturized lips, choose a thin filler that hydrates and stretches with your lip movements. Popular thinner lip fillers are Teoxane RH 2 and Stylage Lips.

But if you prefer plumper, more contoured lips, we suggest you choose Teoxane RH3, Teoxane Kiss or Stylage Lips Plus.

Why 1 ml Lip Filler Is Enough For Most People

The truth is that 1 ml of lip filler can be more than enough for natural results. Here are a few reasons why:

Subtle enhancement

1 ml of lip filler is the average amount for most people. This means it can create a subtle enhancement rather than a drastic change. This is especially important for those who want to maintain a natural appearance and avoid looking like they’ve had work done.

Gradual Build Up

If you’re new to lip fillers or concerned about receiving too much too quickly, start with a small amount. You can always come back if you would like more. Getting lip filler over multiple treatment sessions can help you get used to your new look and feel comfortable with your lips.

Less risk

Overfilling the lips can cause real medical problems. For example, too much filler does not have enough space in the lips and can start migrating to other areas of the face. This can result in a distorted or unnatural appearance.

You may also need longer to recover from the filler treatment. This is because the body needs to absorb the excess filler, which can take time. Also, using too much filler increases the risk of infection. This is because the injection site may be more prone to bacteria and other contaminants.

Overall, 1 ml of lip filler can be more than enough for natural results. It allows for subtle enhancement, natural results and less risk.

A young woman with unnatural-looking lips

This woman visited our clinic because she wanted to have more lip filler. She had 2 ml lip filler at another clinic and was keen on getting more. We felt uncomfortable adding more lip filler as we felt this would look even more unnatural. On top of that, it could be risky for her as too much lip filler can slip and lead to a somewhat distorted look.

Dr Nadja Haub says

Most people are happy with just 1 ml lip filler or less. This amount is usually enough to plump and shape your lips in a natural way. To get fuller and more attractive lips, I suggest using a thicker filler instead of injecting more filler.

Often, I use a two-staged approach. This means that you only have a small amount of lip filler during your first tretament session. After a few days, you can decide whether to have more. This makes sure that you feel absolutely comfortable with the look of your lips.

How often do I need 1 ml of lip filler?

Most people get lip filler injections every 9 to 15 months to keep their desired results. Usually, people return once they notice that the lip filler is starting to wear off. This may be because the lips are starting to look thinner again or lose shape.

Lip filler can last longer than we think.

But please beware of the fact that lip filler may stay in your lips much longer than 9 to 12 months. Recently, scientists looked at several people who had dermal filler several years ago. MR scans were used to examine their faces. Researchers discovered that certain dermal fillers can still be visible on MR scans even 12 years after the treatment.

This was quite an unexpected finding. Doctors thought hyaluronic acid filler completely dissolved after 9 to 18 months, but this study disagrees. This study didn’t examine lip filler; it only looked at dermal filler in other parts of the face. So, at this current stage, we do not know if lip filler can stay in the lips longer than we thought.

Can you remove too much lip filler?

Lip filler removal is a relatively simple and effective procedure. It uses an enzyme called hyaluronidase.

This enzyme can break down the hyaluronic acid in land and dissolve it. Please remember that this only works for lip fillers made of hyaluronic acid. Permanent lip filler or lip filler made of other substances will not work.

As a result, it allows the body to absorb and eliminate it from the body.

How is lip filler dissolving done?

The doctor or nurse injects a little hyaluronidase into the spots where they injected the filler. The enzyme then breaks down the hyaluronic acid in the filler over several days. The process happens relatively quickly; we can do it in the clinic.

  • Your doctor will take a detailed medical history from you to ensure you have the procedure safely.
  • The doctor will cleanse the area thoroughly.
  • Applying some numbing cream or local anesthetic to the treated area is essential.
  • After that, the doctor will carefully inject the enzyme into the areas with too much filler.

The procedure usually does not last longer than 20 to 30 minutes.

Are there any risks or side effects?

As with any cosmetic procedure, lip filler dissolving has risks and side effects. The most common complaint is that it is quite painful, even if the doctor applies numbing cream or local anesthetic.

Apart from that, the procedure can cause

  • Swelling and bruising at the injection site
  • Allergic reactions to the hyaluronidase
  • Infection or other complications at the injection site

Who can not have this procedure?

If you are allergic to bee stings, tell your doctor or nurse before getting lip filler removal. Some people allergic to bee stings may also be allergic to hyaluronidase, the enzyme used to remove lip fillers.

Your doctor will check if removing lip filler is safe or suggest other options. Always tell your healthcare provider about allergies or medical conditions to stay safe during any procedure.
